I've done a complete system restore to factory settings and still have the problem but the first thing I always install is nortons and then firefox. I too have had this problem of the error displayed and no browser on Mozilla Firefox. just fellow their steps. Please hellp. Source
This should be done by breaking your Internet connection and then reconnecting and testing on reliable websites such as www.google.co.uk . But this did not fix it either.
